AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTIVITY GAINS UNDER NEW GLOBAL CRISIS

Introduction
In the days when an undeclared is going on in the world, the fertile land are turned into deserts .Every day we hear of blasts and mines being used world over. These arsenicals, weapon manufacturing left out debris make us lose the agricultural productivity. What we need to do is the focus of this paper.
Major concerns hampering agricultural production
Today's agriculture faces multiple problems. Some of them can be enumerated as;
1. Loss of soil health. The over dose of chemical fertilizers, pesticide ,fungicides ,weedicides and a variety of chemicals used directly or indirectly as arsenisals,weapons,test materials, nuclear lab material wastes and other biological and non biodegraded materials have affected the mother earth. The contamination of its soil,water,air,space known or unknown resources makes the survival of life difficult.Thes ill effects are registered as loss of soil fertility, change in biodiversity, change in animal,plant,human defence resistance to disease. Thus the destabilised soil ingredients effect the plant growth. The mineral deficient or containminated soils result into deficiency syndrome of plants, animals and humans .They are interconnected in the food chain and the disease epidemiology. The new emerging disease like mad cow disease, bird flu ,swine flu, cankers in fruit bearing plants and variety of new emerging virus and insects inflicting heavy losses on crops, fruits and vegetables make the future food production prospects a costlier preposition. As already described in our previous articles on global food situation, it is still possible to produce food for the expected 9 billion in future, but the cost of disease surveillance and protection may make its costly. Thus in order to address future food scenario we must take measures now to contain these contaminants.
2. BIOTECH FARMING OR GM SEEDS
The major factor which is responsible for the increase in food production is germplasm of seeds and planting materials. The biotechnological use for production of superior genotypes is also going to increase costs of food production. The production and replacement of the GM seeds has been costlier and may be misconceived advancement in under developed farming communities. The cost of disseminating proper and needed awareness may also be a negative factor. It may sometimes prove counterproductive until our farmers get accustomed to it. The use ICT and mobile phones can be an asset for easy and effective information. This shall need infrastructure and shall increase the costs per unit food.
3. Marketting hubs
The food chain mechanization is essential for food safety and marketing .This will limit adulration, wastage and contamination. The food safety packaging, distribution and sale to the consumer as a finished product of guarantied quality may further add costs to the consumer. It will increase profits to the farmer. This will need huge marketing infrastructure along with food safety quality control measures at block level. The sensitization of the public distributing agencies is at village level. The whole co-operative system and its asocial ted banks and finances have to be simplified, privatized and modernized.
The other changes in agricultural eduction,extension and research delivery system shall be discussed in future.
